Fibromyalgia
I was diagnosed with
Fibromyalgia in December of 2000, but I think I may have had it for quite a
while before then. And, since so little is known about this condition,
it's still not 100% clear that my problem is, indeed, Fibromyalgia. So,
the focus of this page may change if my condition, diagnosis, or progress
changes.
When I got my diagnosis, my
second child was just over a year old. I suffered with postpartum
depression after having him, although not as severely as I did with my first
child. At this point, I felt my depression was lifting, but physically I
felt horrible. I would wake up hurting each day, and the pain would often
"travel", meaning that one day my neck might hurt, and another day my legs would
hurt. I was experiencing problems with memory and focus. My sleep
patterns were completely out of whack. I would be exhausted every day,
only to find myself unable to sleep once I finally got into bed. The list
goes on, but I've bored you enough.
My older sister had been
dealing with similar, although more severe, problems for quite some time.
I started to entertain the thought that I might have what she did, so I asked my
doctor about seeing a specialist. I was sent to a rheumatologist who works
with a lot of fibro cases. After leaving her office, I felt a sense of
relief. At last I knew I wasn't just lazy, this wasn't in my
head.
At this point I'm going to the
gym and working out in the pool, which is one of the recommended treatments for
fibromyalgia. Tai Chi and Yoga are also thought to alleviate some of the
symptoms of fibromyalgia.
I hope to add more to this page
very soon. Thanks for your patience, and please email me if you have any
useful links you'd like to share on the subject.
